White Balance

Setting the white balance with a photo of a reference white

This method of setting the custom white balance involves taking a photo of a reference white (white paper, photographers white, etc.) and using it as a setting reference for subsequent photographs. This technique requires setting the white balance each time you change the lighting environment. However, as long as you stay in the same lighting ambiance, the setting will remain valid for all your photographs.

Actions to set the custom white balance

  • Set the camera mode dial to non-automatic modes (from P onwards)
  • Take a photograph of a white sheet of paper or a reference white
  • In the Custom White Balance menu, select the photo and confirm
  • Exit the menu, then click on WB and set to Custom White Balance mode.
